As your nurse concierge, I am available to go to healthcare appointments with you. Some of the benefits of having a trained professional at your side include the following:
Americans get, on average, 18 minutes with their primary care doctors at each visit. Improving communication with the doctor will help you get the most out of the brief interaction.
Guidance & Support
As a professional nurse, I will help ensure your rights are understood and goals are met. My goal is to ensure you, the patient, have full informed consent, complete with the understanding of risks, benefits, and alternatives with each medical decision you make.
Discretion & Mediation Services
Some medical decisions will be very difficult; when these tough choices are presented, family may not always agree with your choices. In these highly emotional moments, as your nurse concierge, I can defuse the situation by providing mediation services to ensure all parties are well informed of your personal healthcare decisions.
Medical Record Auditing
Ensure your medical records are accurate and being provided to all pertinent members of your healthcare team/family in a timely manner.
Medication Reconciliation
A thorough review and reconciliation of all medications along with their respective doses compared to therapeutic ranges can confirm there are no medication interactions or negative synergistic reactions.
Hospital Stays
As your nurse advocate, I can help you prepare for your hospital stay and help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety. I can also provide you with bedside service to help reduce medication errors, falls, infections, and making sure you have a full understanding of your care plan. It is important to note that many hospital settings are host to both medical and nursing students. Being your advocate means ensuring no students practice their procedures or skills, surgical or otherwise on you without your expressed knowledge and consent.
Maternity
As your nurse advocate, I can help you develop a birth plan and ensure it is put into place, conditions permitting. In case of any obstetric emergency, I can help you explore different options and make sure you are fully aware of what you are consenting to.
Post-Operative Care
If you have any scheduled procedures, I can help you prepare. Post-operative care includes transportation coordination to and from medical center, overnight stays, coordinate and liaise with hospital personnel and family members, wound checks, and help with pain management. Post-operative assistance can be in 3, 6, 12, or 24-hour increments to ensure you are healing and on the road to recovery.
Miscellaneous
Unexpected events can occur; in the event of these circumstances, we can help you review any concerns and grievances, help you make an informed decision on necessary healthcare procedures without bias or coercion. Pain, trauma, and certain medications can affect your ability to fully comprehend the information being presented in order to make a critical decision for yourself or a loved one; having a professional advocate by your side can ensure you get the quality of service you deserve.
A recent John Hopkins study claims more than 250,000 people in the U.S. die every year from medical errors. Other reports claim the number to be as high as 400,000. Medical errors are the third-leading cause of death after heard disease and cancer.
According to AARP.org, "Patients only remember less than half of what their provider has told them at their healthcare appointments." It can be beneficial to have a Nurse Concierge come with your to your healthcare appointments.
